MediaPost Reports on ixInsights 2025 Study That Finds Patients Want Pharma More Involved in Digital Health

A new study from ixlayer and Ipsos finds that patients are ready for pharma to play a more active role in delivering digital health solutions that make care easier, faster, and more connected.

The research, “ixInsights 2025: Pharma’s Role in Improving the Health Experience,” surveyed more than 400 adults living with asthma, COPD, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, psoriasis, or eczema.

Key finding:

  • 81% of respondents believe pharma companies should help provide digital resources such as patient portals, telehealth, wearables, online pharmacies, and at-home diagnostics.

This insight mirrors ixlayer’s earlier survey with the DHC Group, where
83% of physicians agreed that at-home diagnostic tests “help move patients through the care continuum faster, leading to earlier diagnosis and treatment.”

Patients are already embracing digital tools:

  • 92% use patient portals
  • 82% use telehealth
  • 67% use pharmacy delivery
  • 65% use wearable devices
  • 62% use at-home diagnostic testing

“Patients are seeking more support from pharma,” the report notes, underscoring that only 16% of respondents strongly agree that pharma is patient-centric today.

When asked which services would most improve their perception of pharma, respondents pointed to:

  • Virtual or in-person consultations with healthcare professionals (78%)
  • At-home or easier lab testing access (78%)
  • Secure options for sharing health data (77%)

“It is crucial for all stakeholders to focus on integrating and developing tools that put patients at the core,” said Chareen Lim, Senior Vice President at Ipsos Healthcare. “The journey towards a seamless patient experience is ongoing, and this study shows there are ample opportunities to innovate and improve within this young and dynamic sector.”

“Pharma has a unique opportunity to move beyond education and connect patients to care,” added an ixlayer spokesperson. “Digital health isn’t a separate channel—it’s becoming the infrastructure that defines modern patient engagement.”

The research reinforces a clear message: patients want pharma to evolve from awareness-building to care-enabling. Integrating telehealth, diagnostics, and digital pharmacy experiences isn’t just a differentiator—it’s what defines patient-centricity in the next era of healthcare.
