HIV, short for human immunodeficiency virus, is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system spread via body fluid exposure such as sexual intercourse or blood.  If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). The CDC recommends that screening for HIV should be performed routinely for all individuals aged 13-64.
